This thought crossed my mind while reading a story about a founder who lost their Twitter handle to a competitor and essentially had no recourse to get it back. This situation also popped up during the rollout of paid “Verified” badges on Twitter. I managed to get “southclaws.eth” on the Ethereum Name Service which is cool, but what if it takes off and I also managed to grab “Microsoft.eth”. Currently we have centralised systems in place to prevent this, trademark offices and, if worse comes to worse, courtrooms. What does this look like in the wild west of web3 and beyond? Food for thought…
